I have had many people who are moving call me and ask how they know their chosen removal company will do the job they say they will. Whilst nothing in life is certain (we all know that), there are steps you can take to make sure your possessions are properly looked after.
This will stop questions like “how do I know they won’t run off with my stuff”? Or “how do I know my belongings won’t get damaged”? These are all perfectly good questions that anyone will ask when using a removal company for the first time; however you can easily dispel these if you really want to.
It doesn’t matter how you found the removal company, whether is was through a business directory or through an online market place. You will at some point have the contact details you need and will be able to converse with the company directly. At this point, TAKE SOME REFERENCES. You need to know the firm’s reputation is a good one and you should follow up on any references you receive. Check them out on the internet, is their website professional? Is there a lot of activity?
These are all background checks you can do but the main thing you need is a contract! This will protect you from lost or stolen items and it will also protect you from damage to your goods. Depending on how complicated your move is, will depend on how complicated the contract is. If you’re not sure what you’re signing, ask a professional.
The very last thing I will say on this subject is NEVER let a company take your personal possessions away until you’re completely happy with the contract you have, and ALWAYS check the insurance is valid for the company. If you do this, your move should go smoothly.
