Well Done The UK Transport Ministry

It has recently come to my attention that the UK Government is doing all it can to make sure the country’s CO2 emissions are kept as low as possible. What they have done is set up a scheme which some of the major transport companies are taking part in. What they have agreed to is a trial where they will test out more than 300 vehicles which are low in carbon. I welcome this news, CO2 emissions and the effect it’s having on our environment is constantly in the headlines and being able to see that the UK Government is actively trying to address this issue is very positive news. The program itself will cost about £23 million with £11 million of that funded by the Government. Some large freight companies have already said they intend to use alternative fuels in their vehicles such as re-cycled cooking oil and are replacing diesel with bio-methane or other natural gases. If successful, this project could help reduce CO2 emissions by an impressive 70%! Seen as how the larger companies are taking part in this scheme, the hope is that smaller companies will follow suit. Let’s hope it does work out so we can all look forward to a greener environment within the UK! Author: Julie Coburn

Our Environment and Moving Home or Office

Many of you reading this are probably in the process of moving home or office and the last thing you’re thinking about is your carbon footprint. There are lots of debates about this subject, you only have to pop the phrase in to your search engine and you’ll be faced with a myriad of articles. They all have different opinions but there is strong evidence to suggest that the world’s atmosphere is being affected by the amount of CO2 emissions we humans produce. OK, there are people that will tell you it’s down to the amount of cattle in the world but isn’t that our fault too? When you’re moving home or if you own a removal company it is really worth thinking about the environment. For those of you that have removal companies, think about how much fuel you can save if you operate in such a way that you make sure your vans a fully loaded every-time they leave your depot. You will need fewer vans and will spend less time going to and fro from your customers doors. If you’re moving and don’t think you’ll need a large van to house your belongings ask your chosen removal company if they can fit them in as a “part load”. It will save you money and you’ll be helping the environment as well.       Author: Julie Coburn

Who Would Have Thought It!

In an age where everyone is constantly being told to keep an eye on their carbon footprint inventors are coming up with more weird and wonderful ways of building all sorts of vehicles. Cars and vans powered by electric are becoming ever more popular and alternative fuels are also starting to hit the market. However, did you know that some-time ago someone invented a car that could run on chocolate! Yes, you read that right chocolate! It gets even stranger than that. This car was also made from vegetables. I didn’t believe it either. It had seats made from soybeans, a steering wheel made from carrots and a body that was made from potatoes. When it comes to the fuel this car uses the engine is biodiesel which has the capability of running on vegetable oil and chocolate! Whilst I applaud the inventors of this car and their commitment to looking after the environment, I doubt there will be many removal companies who will be looking to get their removal customers from A to B using a vehicle made from vegetables….what happens when it rains?!   Author: Julie Coburn

Go Green with The RoadAhead

These days, everyone is conscious of their carbon footprint. For those removal companies that operate within the UK some time ago you may well have found that your running costs went up as a result of charges that were put in place in certain areas of the UK (especially London). If your vehicles were over a certain CO2 emission limit then you had to pay. This has meant that a lot of transport companies have had to either change their vehicles or have them adjusted to come into line with emission guidelines set by the Government. This has in fact now been pretty much dealt with and has made people aware of what damage can be done to our planet due to CO2 emissions. I could go into an in depth discussion about the whys and wherefores, however, you are likely to be on a busy schedule and I enjoy writing my blogs for The RoadAhead and don’t want to be asked not to write again because everyone has complained about falling asleep whilst reading this entry! The fact is that The RoadAhead has recognised that removal companies and those of you that are moving are all aware of staying “green”. You will find that our site has (amongst other things) implemented a system so that transport companies and removal customers alike can get in touch with each other if you only have a part load to move. This means that removal companies can integrate several collection and delivery jobs at the same time. Removal customers save money because they are not paying for a whole lorry when only using part of the space available. Why not have a look around the website and see how we can help if you only have a small amount of belongings or equipment to move… the planet stay green and pleasant and find transport companies that can help you with those smaller loads.   Author: Julie Coburn
